Bartholomaeus Anglicus (before – ), also known as Bartholomew the Englishman and Berthelet, was an early 13th-century scholastic of Paris, a member of the Franciscan order. He was the author of the compendium De proprietatibus rerum ("On the Properties of Things"), dated atan early forerunner of the encyclopedia and a widely cited book in the Middle Ages.

The De proprietatibus rerum was an immediate success, and continued to be popular for centuries. It was translated into several languages, including Spanish, French (as Livre des Propriétés des Choses), Dutch livre 17 book de proprieteiten der dingen).

To Bartholomaeus must be given that honor which has been accorded until recently to the Dominican, Vincent of Beauvais, whose work exceeds by ten times the page folio volume of Bartholomaeus. Like the later "Speculum universale" of Vincent, the "De proprietatibus rerum" enjoyed unbounded popularity.
